The quiet Midwestern American town is shaken by Lars, a kind-hearted but kind-hearted boy who has ordered a sex-sized sex doll. He named it, telling people about a very detailed biography and put all his love into "Bianca". What will the brothers and sisters do with Lars? A great story full of humorous, painful, and moving emotions has been conveyed by Ryan Gosling.

Mother died shortly after Lars was born. The father suffers from the death of his wife, always murmuring his birth as he lost the loving woman who treated Lars cold and distant until the day he died. Lars (Gus)'s brother is so overwhelmed by the stifling of his family that he leaves his little brother to leave the house as soon as he's old enough and has a chance. After his father's death, Gus and his wife returned to their hometowns, leaving their wills to the main house while the gasket brother next door. Lars grew up, got a job, always helping people in the town, but at the same time shyly never actively communicated or allowed anyone to touch his body. He lived in a minimalist house renovated from a garage that included a single bed, a lounge chair, a desk, a fridge, a TV.

The movie begins with a lonely winter scene, cold, slow rhythms and old rules that are as boring as Lars' current life. The pregnant Karin tries to invite Lars to dinner with her family, wanting the two of them to get closer to each other as well as take Lars out of solitary life. Despite Karin's efforts, Lars always tries to hide and hide in the dark room. One day, a colleague opened for Lars to see a sample of a sexually-explicit, sex-sized doll-shaped advertisement. A few weeks later, the package was delivered to Lars' home, where he quickly introduced the doll to his brothers and sisters at a dinner that Lars first proposed. In Gus's humiliating sense of humor, Lars introduces "Bianca", a diligent Brazilian-born cross-countryman with a wheelchair in his right leg. He elaborately explained why she was not eating and chatting. In contrast to her husband's attitude, Karin sees this as a good opportunity to help Lars integrate with family and community.

Karin persuades her husband to help Lars, she takes the initiative to approach Biana, speaks the care key to Bianca. She and Gus take Lars and Bianca to Dagmar Therapist, who claims to be Bianca's health examiner. Through Dagmar's weekly "exchanges on Bianca's health", Dagmar gradually peeled off the dense psychological defense curtains that Lars had been covering around her vulnerable My childhood, helping Lars escape from self-isolation. Lars takes Bianca to community activities in town, opens up to her brothers and sisters, and finally confronts Lars in the psychological depths.

The people in Lars' kind-hearted and benevolent town have worked together to help him. They see Bianca as a real girl, treating her kindly and warmly, pulling Lars from a timid, non-communicative couple into the community. With the insight and sensitivity of a woman, Karin helps Gus to relieve the grief of resentment by leaving his brother with his cold father. Gus helped take care of Lars doll girlfriend, two brothers after many years have never talked more than 5 sentences can sit next to each other confided. Behind the image of a shy guy is a gentle guy, sincere, sensitive to the suffering of others. While everyone in the company did not notice, only Lars discovered her distressed Margo colleague, he also prevented other male colleagues tease Margo. Margo invited Lars to go bowling, For the first time, Lars has experienced going out with a man of the opposite sex. But Lars still reminds Margo that he can not betray Bianca.

Bianca is a projection image of Lars' hurt self and secretive desires. Contrary to the sexual desire of others to think of sex dolls, Lars Bianca is an ideal friend, a friend who never touches him. The relationship Lars built with Bianca contains the closeness that is also full of surreal, an imaginary identity Lars wished for a real girlfriend. When the protective layers gradually open, Bianca is also "dying", and finally on a sunny summer day, Lars broke up with the last remaining illusion. The ending monologue when he accepted Biaca died in pain and relief. The ruins of so many shameless finally calm down, let go of Lars.

The color of the story is the generosity of the community around Lars. Karin as a catalyst for love, the broken, warm memories, regret the two brothers Gus and Lars never ventured together. At the last rehearsal, Lars gave Dagmar the ultimate fear of someone touching him, and for the first time Lars was able to touch others without feeling pain. The final shell separating Lars from the surrounding world was removed.

Ryan Gosling had an incredible turn. Lars character is shy, weird, dull, sensitive, serious, sincere. Keeping that balance of nuances is not an easy task. It is he who blows the soul of the protagonist, helping to tell a strange story about Lars through the full supply of emotions from loneliness, suffering, joy, finally liberation and peace.
